There’s been much talk between mountain guides and avalanche experts over the last few days regarding the condition of the snow pack, with a high temperature gradient and thin covering. Some have likened the conditions to the same period of the horrific 05/06 season and are concerned we may see similar this year.
The weather over the last few weeks have allowed the snow to become more sugary and faceted, and while this stuff has been nice to ski on, it’s a definite weak layer for anything to follow. With the forecast for the next week or so promising a bit of a storm, with rain and then more snow, it’s not likely it’ll get a chance to consolidate before receiving a new layer on top.
Be very wary over the next couple of weeks!
