FIFA awarded the hosting of the 2022 world cup to Qatar, but now Sepp Blatter is saying that it was a mistake to award a summer tournament to Qatar and so FIFA are contemplating a winter world cup.
The FIS is concerned that running this event in the winter will draw away sponsors, viewers and the the skiing public alike, so they have called upon other snow-sports organisations to collaborate on ensuring this doesn’t happen, “FIS will submit a proposal to the other six International Winter Sports Federations to sign a resolution against organising the World Cup during the winter sports season in 2022,”. The International Olympic Committee is also taking an interest, as this could also affect the Winter Olympics that year.
