Just before Christmas, we received our long awaited Hexo+, the first autonomous drone to come to market. Other drones like Zano have gone bust and Lily are reposing delays, but Hexo+ is available now.
We’ve not had much chance to test it yet beyond flying it in a local football field but we hope to have it out in the mountains with us soon.
This autonomous drone uses Bluetooth from your iPhone or android devices to control it via a series of preprogrammed movements. Hover, slide, 360 circle and the game changing ‘follow me’. It uses gps to ensure it keeps you in shot and the 3D gimbal keeps the image steady. Only the iPhone 6 and newer a well as specific android devices have a barometer so can calculate altitude accurately enough to offer terrain following capabilities but for a first generation piece of kit, we’re pretty impressed.
